Maundy Thursday (April 17) His blood establishes a new covenant

Jesus suffers to save. This Lent we spend time in Luke’s account of Jesus’ suffering.
As Jesus gave his last will and testament and established his Supper, he spoke of a new covenant in his blood. Why is it new? What was the old? And why is this new one better?
